Overview

ProjectGROW is the first phase of EARTHFIRSTcc Integrated Sustainable Development Strategy . projectGROW is a series of initiatives aimed at developing systems that facilitate healthier environments and a more sustainable future in terms of our access to “ethical food” and respect for our un-renewable resources. ProjectGROW aims at distributing certified organic seeds, organic growing knowledge and sustainable environmental upliftment mechanisms to target a diverse range of accessible “greening” possibilities for households and businesses to adopt.

 

Objectives

•  to develop processes that facilitate healthier and more sustainable environments within ALL communities.
•  To encourage back-yard composting and food-production
•  To encourage back yard vegetable growing using the “Bio-Dynamic” philosophy and Permaculture principles
•  To promote organic agriculture as a viable alternative to commercial agriculture for more sustainable effects on the land and people.
•  To provide long term access to seed (The Living Seed Bank) and knowledge resources
•  To develop a diversity of skills in the “greening sector” from composting; seed collection/storage; and vegetable / herb / indigenous plant seedlings, etc.
•  To develop a marketing strategy for commercial sale of all the above income generators.
•  To develop more awareness and action on soil and land rehabilitation thereby maintaining viable waterways. (earthworms)
•  To encourage respect and harmony with Earth's Natural Living Systems
•  To encourage development of local trade of locally made products

In Conclusion

ProjectGROW is part of an over-arching integrated strategy that addresses environmental, economic and social issues over the long term. As long as food security and general environmental efforts remain fragmented and unsupported, the chances of succeeding in creating a more sustainable future in terms of our food and water security requirements are very slim. In light of unstable fuel prices , and economic uncertainties, not to mention the devastating environmental damage our lifestyles create - there is a desperate need to implement a distinctive and highly focused local food security and environmental upliftment plan. ProjectGROW has been conceived in an effort to create sustainable socio-economic and environmental solutions so desperately needed for a more stable and secure future for all of us.
